Kindergarten Writing Celebration

We joined our kindergarten buddies today to celebrate their writing! It was so much fun to hear their stories, celebrate their accomplishments, and talk with them about how to improve their writing for next time.  The cookies and chocolate milk were a yummy addition to our celebration!

Bones 100 Word Challenge

It was the night before Halloween, and on that night, a boy was walking through the forest! He was walking calmly when a human-eating bat swooped down from its tree. As the boy heard the “SWOOSH!” he looked up, from shock he jumped and landed on his back. The bat kept going and ate the boy whole! The legend is still told today, about how shocked the boy was, and how the bat swallowed him whole. So if walking in the woods the night before Halloween, beware because the human-eating bat may eat you whole. AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!

Bones 100 Word Challenge

‘Hey Billy, look what I found.’  ‘What should we do with it Jeff?’  ‘Show it to a bone scientist.’  So they took it to a scientist and the man said kindly, ‘thank you for bringing this to me so now I can have something to study.’  After that, Billy and Jeff went back hiking and the scientist would study the bones.  While the scientist studied it he realized this was a skeleton from a few years ago.  He then figured out he was 6 feet, 2 inches and about 37 years old.  So far this is the only amount of information he has.

Bones 100 Word Challenge

His name was Ron, he was a normal 12 year old boy, he liked soccer, had an older brother named Gregg who was 15 and a younger sister named Margaret who was 9 .

His family had just moved into a new house in the sunny suburbs of New York, the house was like any other house accept the strange skeleton by the creek, he and Gregg were the only people who knew about the skeleton. It was a secret they said if Margaret got really annoying like more annoying than usual, they would make up a story to scare her.

One dewy Autumn morning there was a boy named Autumn. They had a Mansion in which most doors were locked so his Dad locked himself up in one of those rooms . Luckily he had a butler who practically raised him .That butler,Kenneth had a son. Kenneth II loved to play with Autumn. One day they walked to the garden and they compared battle cards. when they  got up ,Autumn practically fainted but Kenneth had his back. what they saw was a skull  sticking out from their marigolds, a right hand sticking from the roses, and a left hand just barely grazing the grass.

“Whoa!” Maddie shouted. “Abby, come check this out!”
I walked toward Maddie. “What?”
“Look!” Maddie pointed to an object about 5 feet away from her. I stepped closer.
“What is it?” I kneeled down to get a closer look.
“It’s a skeleton!” Maddie exclaimed. She took a stick and poked at it. The skeleton got up from where it was laying and stared straight at us.
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!” he boomed.
“Uh… w-w-we were just hiking a-a-along this trail…” I stuttered.
“NO! NONSENSE!” The skeleton lunged towards us and I blacked out.

Bones 100 Word Challenge

One day there was a little boy that was just walking thru a cemetery and tripped and as his face hit the cold hard ground, he got up and screamed
and ran home to tell his mother that he tripped and nothing was around him except graves.     The next day he got right up and rode his bike to
the cemetery to see what was going on and what  made him fall so he examined the graves and as he got to the last grave a arm wraped its slimy hand around his leg  and was stuck. What really happened?

Bones 100 Word Challenge

I was walking in the forest with my grandpa to explore. I was at his house for the weekend and I needed something to do.
"So are you going to have an adventure this weekend without me?" Grandpa asked.
"Well, maybe I will." I said. "I'll go look for one!"
I ran off to the hill and went around it. I didn't see anything at all. I went climbing up the hill and got the top. Nothing. I decided to go back down and get back to grandpa. But when I turned, I saw a pile of bones.

Bones 100 Word Challenge

I was walking in the forest one night and I heard a noise.  I didn't see anything so I started walking again.  I was looking around when I saw something glowing.  I walked toward it and it was... a skeleton! I screamed and ran away.  I ran home and I went to bed.  When I woke up that morning I saw the skeleton laying next to my bed and I screamed!  My parents ran up to my room and asked if I was ok.  I screamed "NO!" then they disappeared!  No one ever saw or spoke to them again!

Bones 100 Word Challenge

It was halloween night and I was walking through the forest looking for another house to go and trick or treat. Little did i know i was walking in the old dead woods. I kept walking thinking I was on the other side of town in the other woods. it was dark and I stumbled across something, I turned on my torch thinking it was just a tree branch  looked down and to my horror I saw a pile of bones. I ran out of the woods, and I never went back, but I could never ever forget the bones.

The Pringles Challenge Results are IN!!

Finally we were able to set up a time with Mr. Pitlyk's 5th grade class at Hudson Elementary School.  We did a google hangout so each class could see and hear each other.  Mr. Pitlyk's class opened our packages one by one so we could see which designs allowed a pringle to be sent through the mail without breaking.  We had some interesting results!  Before sending the packages, we recorded the mass of each.  It turned out that the lightest and the heaviest packages were unsuccessful but the packages that all had a mass near 300 grams successfully protected a pringle.  Our class had a great reflection as to why some designs protected the chip better than others and they will do some personal engineering reflecting tonight.  Then we took a turn and opened up the packages we received.  Out of their 8 packages, 6 out of 8 were successful.  It was a great challenge and some brainstorming is already taking place for a second challenge next semester!

Car Wash

The 5th graders had a successful first fundraiser to raise money for their class gift!  They spent a Saturday morning washing cars and selling baked goods.   Cars were driving away with a clean sparkle and drivers were leaving Glenridge full from delicious brownies.
