Finally we were able to set up a time with Mr. Pitlyk's 5th grade class at Hudson Elementary School. We did a google hangout so each class could see and hear each other. Mr. Pitlyk's class opened our packages one by one so we could see which designs allowed a pringle to be sent through the mail without breaking. We had some interesting results! Before sending the packages, we recorded the mass of each. It turned out that the lightest and the heaviest packages were unsuccessful but the packages that all had a mass near 300 grams successfully protected a pringle. Our class had a great reflection as to why some designs protected the chip better than others and they will do some personal engineering reflecting tonight. Then we took a turn and opened up the packages we received. Out of their 8 packages, 6 out of 8 were successful. It was a great challenge and some brainstorming is already taking place for a second challenge next semester!
